Greening Education

Understanding Climate Change

Understanding climate change is essential for recognizing its impacts on our planet and for driving informed, effective action toward a sustainable future.

Renewable Energy

Harnesses natural resources to provide clean, sustainable power, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and mitigating climate change.

Biodiversity and Ecosystems

They are vital for sustaining life on Earth, providing essential resources, balancing climate, and supporting resilience against environmental challenges.

Waste Reduction

Minimizes environmental impact by conserving resources, reducing pollution, and promoting sustainable practices for a healthier planet.

Carbon Footprint and Offsetting

Managing our carbon footprint and investing in offsetting efforts are essential steps toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating the effects of climate change.

Sustainable Practices

Prioritize the responsible use of resources to protect ecosystems, support long-term environmental health, and ensure a balanced future for all.

Help to green 50%+ of Canadian schools

Aligned with the United Nations’ Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), our goal is to help green at least 50% of Canadian schools. By providing more climate change knowledge to students, we hope to equip them with the knowledge and tools to combat climate change.

Events

Local Park Cleanup

On October 18, 2024, UCC’s Sustainability Council organized a service afternoon with “Don’t Mess with the Don”. A group of 27 UCC students and teachers spent the afternoon removing invasive Buckthorn in Toronto’s Cedarvale Ravine.

Climate Change Workshop

In November, we’re excited to organize a tour of a local solar energy company. This visit will offer an inside look at solar technology, from energy generation to the impact on reducing carbon footprints. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about sustainable energy firsthand. This tour aims to inspire practical knowledge and ideas for integrating renewable energy solutions in our own communities.

Greening Education

We support the UN’s Greening Education goals, recognizing that education is a powerful tool in addressing global challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, and inequality. By embracing an interdisciplinary approach, Green Education equips students with the climate literacy to be able to contribute to a green economy.
